During an April 23 debate on the government’s program, MP György Gyimesi (OĽaNO) spoke about the imperative to adopt a law on minorities emphasizing the need for a change in perspective from ethnic minorities as “security risks” to partners. He pledged that the interest of national minorities will be represented in the parliament and that they must be included in the decision-making processes that effect them. In his opinion, the minority law must define who is a member of a minority group. Mr. Gyimesi also highlighted the importance of establishing the planned Office for Minority Affairs that would ultimately assume the mandate of the government Commissioner for Minorities.
