The Powers of the Government Commissioner for Minorities have been Expanded in Slovakia

Several important decisions were made in Slovakia concerning national minorities, which increase the weight of issues related to national minorities within government policy, improve the conditions for the activities of the government commissioner for minorities and the effectiveness of the enforcement of minority rights in the future. This is a significant change because, based on the new statute, the government commissioner can consult directly with the prime minister regarding his duties and can also submit materials to the government through the prime minister. Until now, he could only request this from the head of the government office, so in the future, negotiations may take place at a higher level.
