Hungarian-Slovak educational cooperation is reaching a new high following an agreement in Komárno/ Révkomárom, Slovakia, to establish a joint educational working group. The decision was made during a meeting between Veronika Varga-Bajusz, Deputy State Secretary for Higher Education at the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Innovation, and Róbert Zsembera, Slovak State Secretary for Education.
The discussion, held at the Hungarian-language János Selye University located in the border city, focused on strengthening higher education cooperation between the two countries, exchanging professional experiences, and addressing current educational issues. A key topic was the performance-based financing model, which Hungary introduced a few years ago. The Hungarian side shared its experiences with its Slovak partners.
Veronika Varga-Bajusz emphasized that the goal of the working group is to create a platform for universities, accreditation agencies, and quality assurance experts to engage in regular consultations and joint work. The discussions also covered research and innovation issues, as well as EU educational policies. Regarding the topic of a European diploma, both sides agreed that further review is needed.
Róbert Zsembera confirmed that the working group is expected to be established in February, with members meeting at least twice a year. Representatives of both countries’ scientific academies and educational institutions will actively participate in the process with further meetings planned for the future.
This collaboration marks a significant step in deepening Hungarian-Slovak educational relations, which could contribute to the long-term development of both countries’ higher education systems.
