A new methodology adopted by the Ministry of Education marks an important step forward for minority education. Initiated by RMDSZ, the regulation establishes that original Hungarian-langauge textbooks will take priority for Hungarian minority students, instead of primarily relying on translated Romanian materials.

This decision recognizes that Hungarian-language education is more than simply translating Romanian content. Textbooks written in Hungarian better reflect the language’s terminology, structure, and the cultural environment in which Hungarian students learn. As a result, the quality and competitiveness of Hungarian-language education can significantly improve.

The regulation also aims to encourage Hungarian educators and publishers to develop their own textbooks. Translated textbooks will only be used if no original Hungarian-language works are submitted or approved during the procurement process. Exceptions remain for Geography and the History of Romania, where translated Romanian textbooks will continue to be used with careful adaptation of names and terminology.

Beyond the legal framework, the success of this initiative depends on the active involvement of educators. Teachers and academic communities are encouraged to contribute their expertise to create modern, high-quality learning materials that help students gain competitive knowledge in their mother tongue.
