How can we make minority rights protection tangible and accessible for young people?

Report on the HHRF Human Rights Workshop
On July 2, 2025, the now traditional human rights workshop was held in Budapest as part of the Reconnect Hungary Birthright trip. The all-day event requires thorough preparation each year, as its goal is not only to share knowledge but also to foster active engagement and transformative dialogue.
This year’s focus was on the protection of minority rights highlighting top regions and issues of concern for the ethnic Hungarian communities in Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine. Through interactive simulation games, map-based presentations, and collaborative tasks, our 18 participants explored how minority rights are upheld in everyday life and how various actors – whether from civil society or decision-making bodies – can contribute to their defense.
It was especially important to us that participants leave not only with practical insights, but also with a strong foundation in professional and legal perspectives. We extend our sincere thanks to experts Dr. Sándor Seremet and Dr. Balázs Tárnok for their invaluable contributions and presentations that provided essential context for understanding legal and societal dimensions.
We are grateful to everyone, both from Hungary and across the borders, who contributed to the success of the workshop. The event once again demonstrated that collaboration, professional expertise, and experience-based learning are all essential for human rights advocacy.
