There are no disputes between Hungary and Slovenia in minority protection

On September 30, Ferenc Kalmár, the Ministerial Commissioner for Hungary’s Neighborhood Policy at the Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry, announced that there are no unresolved issues between Hungary and Slovenia regarding minority protection for their respective communities. The 19th session of the Hungarian-Slovenian Joint Minority Committee was held in Ljubljana and concluded with the signing of a protocol.

The next step is for both countries to develop an action plan, with designated officials and deadlines, based on the protocol.  Among the topics discussed were projects aimed at improving the lives of the Hungarian community in Slovenia and the Slovenian minority in Hungary. For example, infrastructural development in Slovenian villages in the Rába region and the construction of a sewage system were mentioned.

Kalmár emphasized that the goal of every initiative is for each national community to thrive in their respective native land. Future development projects include replenishing the Joint Fund for the Mura and Rába Regions, which promotes cross-border regional development.
