Ukraine Poised to Fulfill Hungary’s Eleven Demands

Olga Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister responsible for European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and the head of the Ukrainian delegation for the European Union accession negotiations, confirmed that Ukraine is ready to negotiate Hungary’s 11 demands regarding the protection of national minority rights.

Stefanishyna stated that Ukraine has repeatedly reaffirmed its determination to maintain good relations with its neighbors, especially concerning issues related to the protection of national minority rights.

“We are sincerely committed to resolving and fully implementing the 11 issues raised, particularly by the Hungarian side, which strengthen the protection of national minority rights, as well as to continuing bilateral consultations with Hungary,” she added.

At the end of January, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó handed  the Ukrainian side a list of 11 demands during his visit to Ungvár/Uzhhorod, which would guarantee the rights of the Hungarian national minority in Ukraine. These demands were included in the framework for Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations, which was finally approved on June 21.
