On September 19, the final hurdle in uniting the three political parties representing the interests of the Hungarian minority in Slovakia was overcome. The Hungarian Community Party (MKP), Most-Híd party, and the Hungarian Community Cooperation (MKÖ) will merge into one in the upcoming weeks and be called Alliance (Szövetség).
Krisztián Forró, current president of MKP, has been nominated by the party’s delegates to head up Alliance, which will continue to have three platforms. As József Berényi of MKP stated, Alliance is the last chance for Hungarians to have parliamentary representation in Slovakia again. “We tried everything else and it didn’t work,” he added (https://mandiner.hu, September 20, 2021).
